Campbell Richmond American Legion Post 63 honored those who are or have served in America’s military with a Veterans’ Day Dinner, Nov.11. George Schultz, a medic with the 29th Infantry Division on D-Day, received the Knight of the French Legion of Honor award for his World War II service.
“The French people salute its heroes with eternal gratitude,” said Barney Schoenfeld, post commander.
Maj. Gen. Paul Crandall, recently returned from duty in Afghanistan, spoke about our troops serving overseas.
“This has been a long, hard year in Afghanistan, but we have every reason to be proud of our sons and daughters,” said Crandall, commanding general of the 416th Theater Engineer Command. “We don’t have to worry about our future when it comes to the defense of our country.”
Post 63 also presented awards to the Clarkston News and Oakland Press for excellence in media coverage of American Legion events and activities.
