Three Oxford Village Police officers were honored last month with Departmental Commendation Awards for their roles in arresting a man wanted for the armed robbery of a Lake Orion gas station.
Sgt. Mike Solwold, Reserve Officer Mike Bono and Officer Mark Lampkowski worked together on Dec. 8, 2006 to apprehend the suspect following a high speed chase that took them from Oxford all the way to I-75.
When the suspect’s vehicle was finally forced into a ditch, he indicated he wanted the police to shoot and kill him.
It was Lampkowski who noticed the suspect’s handgun was actually a toy, thereby averting a tragedy commonly known as ‘suicide by cop.?
