While Oxford Township’s lawsuit seeking the dissolution of the Oxford Public Fire and EMS Commission continues to sit in Oakland County Circuit Court, the Oxford Village Council last week approved a resolution 4-0 supporting the safety authority’s continued existence and operation of the fire department. The resolution states:
‘The Village Council endorses the continuation of the Act 57 arrangement for community fire emergency service and ALS service that is cost effective and would not reduce the level of fire and emergency services to the Village.
‘The Village Council confirms that the Village has a significant equity in the assets of OPFEC that would need to be specifically calculated and the actual equity awarded to the Village, but only if a dissolution of OPFEC were legally required and ordered by the court as a result of the lawsuit filed by the Township of Oxford.
‘The Village Council is always ready and willing to negotiate equitable changes in the membership makeup of OPFEC that would provide for a total board membership majority voting approval process and other issues related to the same.
‘The Village of Oxford feels that the appropriate and only vehicle for fire operations millage is OPFEC.?
Included in council’s motion was direction for Clerk Rose Bejma to forward the above resolution to each member of the township board and OPFEC.
