Village officials hold off on pathway sign-off

Goodrich – Although the Goodrich-Atlas Pathway Project is in use, village officials aren’t signing off on the work by Oakland Excavating.
Engineer Becky Baker of Wade Trim discussed problem areas of the project with the Village of Goodrich Council at its Aug. 8 meeting. Michigan Department of Transportation will pay 80 percent of most costs before village officials sign off on the project.
Because the village is currently 9 percent under budget on its portion of the pathway project, Baker recommend fixing the issues, mostly involving drainage, which became apparent after recent rainfall accumulations.
Council trustee Pete Morey raised the issue of the aggragate material–used to shoulder the pathway–washing away, as well as the feasibility of replacing the material with crushed limestone.
The material has yet to be compacted down, says Baker, noting MDOT would likely not pay to have the aggragate material removed and replaced with limestone. A less costly solution may be to replace washed-away gravel with limestone.
Final pathway work is expected to be completed soon, says village administrator Jakki Sidge.
