Once again it’s time for the local community to come together for the annual luminary project.
The holidays can be a great times to be in and around the Village of Ortonville and the festive glow of the tradition of lighted luminaries on Christmas Eve is no exception to the the special holiday events around town.
A beautiful sight to behold, it’s nonethless a dim project without the help of volunteers.
Luminaries are a special bag of sand with a small candle that will burn for eight hours.
Each Christmas Eve, the village streets are lined with these bags and the candles are lit by village residents and volunteers by 6 p.m.
Before the bags can be placed on the streets, volunteers and council members gather at the Department of Public Works garage to fill the bags with sand.
