Volunteers, public servants celebrated at dinner

They help the boat crash victims, catch thieves and volunteer their time.
Those who help the Village of Lake Orion stay a nice, safe place to live were feted at the annual Appreciation Dinner held at Paint Creek Country Club on May 28.
‘No one wants to live, work, shop or have fun where it’s unsafe to do so,? said Chief Jerry Narsh. ‘These are the people who have helped keep our community safe.?
Police officers, municipal workers and regular citizens were among those honored.
The citizens honored this year include David Ingoglia, Ron Zilka, Timothy English, Arlin French and Rick Rice.
‘Without their assistance, we could not provide our assistance at a level you deserve,? Narsh said.
For years, Ingoglia has helped the department navigate the waters of the lake for the department. Ron Zilka found, restored and donated the ‘showroom condition? 1941 police car to the LOPD. Timothy English helped tip off police to an auto theft suspect, which led to an arrest. Arlin French and Rick Price helped a boat crash victim.
The reserve officers for the Lake Orion Police Department, who volunteer their time, were also celebrated.
‘They donate all of their time to ensure our safety,? Narsh said. ‘This year, they’ve 3,934 hours patrol time to the village. That’s 4,000 hours away from home.?
The department paid tribute to those officers who have served 200 hours or more in the past year: Reed Brown, 200 hours; Robert Bresett, 200 hours; John Schmitt, 240.5 hours; Commander David Mirku, 258.5 hours; Sgt. Joseph Sare , 275.5; Chad Reetz, 314 hours; Derek August, 314.5; Sgt.Amy Fong-kretzmer, 347
9 hours; and Sgt. Stephen Bauer, 371.5.
‘Once a year, they get paid with a nice meal,? Narsh said, referring to the evening’s spread.
The village also honored the full-time law enforcement members like Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Matthew Liss for his assistance in an armed robbery at CVS, LOPD Ofc. Marc Sites for an auto theft arrest, LOPD Todd Stanfield for a criminal sexual conduct investigation, LOPD Lt. Harold Rossman for an arson investigation and dedication, LOPD Ofc. Chris Mires for a heroin investigation and dispatcher Rebecca Shank for dedication.
