There’s an opportunity in Leonard to become an active part of a local summer tradition that spans more than 60 years.
The Leonard Summer Festival Committee is seeking volunteers to help coordinate the annual Strawberry Festival, which takes place on the third Saturday in July.
‘We’re looking for people that want to get involved with the booth rentals, the entertainment, everything. It’s pretty much wide open,? said Committee Member Char Sutherby, who’s been helping with the festival for approximately 20 years. ‘It would be great if we could get three, four or five (more) people.?
The popular festival, which is turning 62 this year, features a parade, strawberry sundaes, live music, dancing, vendors and a variety of children’s activities.
Sutherby guarantees that volunteers will have a ‘good time? and ‘maybe get to try something they’ve always wanted to try, but never had the opportunity before.?
‘Sometimes (volunteering is) a nice way for people that are new to the area to meet people,? she added.
The Leonard Summer Festival Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of every month at Rowland Hall (23 E. Elmwood St.).
