Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) Public Information Officer Craig Bryson has confirmed that the Wal-Mart Corporation is indeed interested in purchasing road commission property in Lake Orion.
Bryson said the RCOC requested proposals for purchasing the property at Lapeer and Clarkston Roads in Orion Township. He said the RCOC has owned the property since the 1920s.
“We do not have any agreement with Wal-Mart,” he said. “Part of the proposal is that whoever buys the property must provide us with equal or better facilities somewhere else…so there is no extra expense to our agency or the taxpayers.”
Bryson said Wal-Mart is one of several entities interested in the property.
“It’s pretty premature,” he said. “We have received offers, and Wal-Mart’s one of them.
“Ultimately, it will be a decision up to our board…the property is a large site,” Bryson said.
