Walgreens, located on the corner of Lapeer Road and Elizabeth, will host a safety day on July 27. The event, which begins at 3 p.m. and goes through the evening, is open to any children and families who would like to attend.
‘Walgreens is always for the community,? said store manager Terry Taj, noting that he thought it would be a good idea to help educate the community on safety.
Features at the safety day include DNA testing and child IDs will be available. Representatives from D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) will be at the store to speak to families and children about the dangers of drugs. Members of the Lake Orion Police Department will also be available to talk about the importance of seat belts and what it is like to be a police officer.
Taj hopes to get the fire department to participate as well.
‘I just want to create excitement so people are aware (of programs available),? said Taj.
While checking out the different features at safety day, visitors will be able to enjoy food and beverages provided by the store and its vendors, including ice cream and pop.
According to Taj, it is important to have safety features like child IDs and DNA testing. ‘The news makes you wonder if you need stuff like that, in case something happened.?
