Warren — On Dec. 30, the Goodrich Martian Boys Basketball team concluded 2023 with a trip to Warren and the DeLaSalle Collegiate Pilots. Despite stellar efforts from GHS Parker LePla with 27 points and six rebounds, brother Jensen LaPla who tossed in 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals, the Martians dropped the non league road match-up 84-62.
The Martians trailed at halftime just 41-31, but could not tame the Pilots.
“Every loss this year has been to a Class A team,” said Head Coach Gary Barns, regarding his 5-3 Martians.
The three Martian losses were to the Heritage Hawks (69-44), Carman-Ainsworth Cavaliers (58-57) and DeLaSalle Collegiate Pilots (84-62).
“The score is not an indication of how close the DeLaSalle game was,” said Barns after the game. “We are trying to get our team ready for the tough Flint Metro League. We’ll find out at Corunna on Tuesday night. I’m confident they will be ready to play.”
GHS Landon Brown, seven points, two rebounds and one assist; GHS Carson Raether, six points, five rebounds and one assist and GHS Julius Wilson seven points.
