First-year Lake Orion boys swim coach John Jess said this week that his team continues to improve and swim hard.
The water Dragons are competing in the Red Division, which is the top grouping in the Oakland Activities Association.
They might not have the depth that some schools have but Jess said ‘it has been good in the fact that the boys get to race against fast people every meet. It helps them to see what is needed to get better and hopefully it helps them to get faster as well. It is also challenging on the other hand when we can do our best and still not win the meet.?
The team is 2-6 on the season but there are two meets on the horizon, against Eisenhower and Oxford, that Jess is hopeful that the Dragons can win.
The team performed very well at the Saginaw Heritage Relays and won their home Dragon Relays meet.
Senior Devon Nowicki set a varsity record in the 50 meter freestyle and during a meet at Rochester Adams, he eclipsed three pool records.
Nowicki is one of the top swimmers in the state.
‘We are hosting the Oakland County Meet (Feb. 6 and 7) coming up and I am looking for some good swims and diving there to get us ready for the conference meet and states,? Jess said.
