Oxford Township planning commissioners are scheduled to discuss the preliminary site plan for a proposed dormitory to house 200 international students at their 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12 meeting.
The meeting will take place at the Oxford Township Hall located at 300 Dunlap Rd., just north of Seymour Lake Rd.
The China-based Weiming Education Group is proposing to construct a 55,377-square-foot dormitory on a 2.71-acre parcel on Market St., located just east of M-24 and south of Ray Rd.
Plans call for the two-level facility to contain 104 dorm rooms, eight rooms for teachers/resident advisors, eight classrooms, kitchen, cafeteria and student commons area.
Weiming has a 20-year agreement in place with Oxford Schools for the education of international students brought here. The dormitory would be a privately-owned and operated facility.
Because the site is zoned for General Commercial (C-2) use, a student dormitory is considered a permitted use. This zoning district allows for public and private colleges.
