One of Michigan’s premiere golf courses will provide the setting when WJR presents the ArvinMeritor March of Dimes Celebrity Golf Classic on Aug. 26 at Indianwood Golf and Country Club.
Local golfers can join sports figures, business executives and media personalities, including many from WJR, for a full day of activities. The day will include a round of golf, use of a cart and meals before, during and after play. Corporate fivesomes are $2,000. There are prizes for winning foursomes and competitions at several holes. Sponsorship opportunities are available as well.
WJR’s Frank Beckmann is celebrity chairman; Larry D. Yose, Chairman of the Board and CEO of ArvinMeritor and Mike Fezzey, President and General Manager of WJR and WDVD are honorary chairmen. Ed Coosaia, Vice President Media Research BBDO-Detroit is tournament chairman.
Since its inception the event has raised well over $2 million. Proceeds help the March of Dimes save babies through programs of research, community service, advocacy and education. March of Dimes efforts include a five-year, $75 million Prematurity Campaign.
Prematurity is America’s number one obstetric problem. More than 476,000 babies are born premature each year. All too many of those babies die or suffer costly chronic lifelong health problems. Launched in January, the campaign seeks to reduce incidences of premature births by 15 percent.
