The Clarkston Volleyball team is not where they envisioned themselves at the start of the year. They stand 6-8 (2-2) on the season.
Hopefully the worst is behind them as the Wolves polished off Rochester High 3-0 on Jan. 10.

‘We should have beaten the teams we’ve lost to. We have not been playing well at all,? said Senior Stephanie Parkin.
Parkin recorded 18 kills against Rochester in a performance which her coach Kelly Avenall referred to afterwards as ‘dominant.? Parkin and fellow teammates on the front line Junior Laura Kupe and Senior Carolyn Murdock have been excellent this year according to Avenall.
‘Our front line is solid. Our passing needs to improve. We are hard to beat when we pass well,? said Avenall.
The team has addressed their focus when receiving the ball on serves and Avenall has examined passing technique as well.
‘Sometimes (our passing) is on and sometimes we have just been so off. If you can’t set your teammates up you can’t win,? said Parkin
Fortunately, in the win against the Falcons, the Wolves did not show any fatigue from the five matches they played at the Walled Lake Central Tournament on Jan. 8.
Over the course of the tourney, Clarkston beat North Farmington and Waterford Mott, but lost to Marian, Walled Lake Northern and Farmington High.
The Wolves compete next in the Grand Blanc Tournament on Jan. 15 and follow up with a tough league test at Troy Athens on Jan. 17. After the flurry of action, the team will host Groves on Jan. 20.
‘Our goal at the beginning of the season was to win the league. To do that now we need to win out (in league play),? said Avenall.
