The Oxford Women’s Club handed out $1,000 scholarships to 13 lucky students at their annual scholarship night May 7 at the Burning Oak Smokehouse.
‘The restaurant generously offered to provide, free of charge, the room, the finger food and soft drinks for members and our scholarship recipients and their parents,? said Club President Nancy Wray. ‘We are most grateful for their donation.?
The 13 scholarship recipients included Wesley Maskill, who is heading to Michigan State University to wrestle as well as study special education. Emily Cleland will make her way to Hope College where she will take some swings on the golf team as well as major in English or communications in the hopes of tailoring her degree towards the fashion industry. Joining Cleland at Hope will be Kristen Godwin who is looking to go into the medical field as well as spend some time running cross-country and track.
Victoria Bearse will attend the University of Michigan to pursue a degree in the medical field.
Tyler Scott plans on majoring in computer engineering and a minor in math at the University of Colorado.
Shelby Gulda wants to study pre-optometry with a major in biology at Oakland Community College.
Lewis Marshall will make his way to Michigan Tech where he will study material science engineering and get a minor in nanotechnology.
Wrestler Zeb Throne will continue the sport at Thiel College in Pennsylvania, while studying mortuary science.
Adam Kemp will attend the University of Toledo for bioengineering.
Titus Shumaker will major in mechanical engineering at Kettering University.
Megan Kerin will head to Grand Valley State University to pursue a major in psychology.
Juliya Thronson wants to become a paramedic while studying at Oakland Community College, meanwhile her brother Ty will run track at the University of Maryland, Baltimore where he plans to earn a degree in Russian and do ROTC on the side before joining the military after graduation to serve his country.
