One of Lake Orion’s council members will be spending a little time in Oxford Township. Ken Van Portfliet has volunteered to sit on a committee that will look at developing a safety path system from Drahner Road at Newman to M-24.
The township recently received a grant for $37,000 from the Community Foundation’s Greenways Initiative Program. A condition of the grant requires Oxford Township to convene a meeting of representatives from neighboring communities to coordinate trailways in the area.
Beside the Village of Lake Orion representative, the committee will be made up of three Oxford Township Safety Path Committee members, two representatives each from Orion Township and the Polly Ann Management Council and one representative from the Village of Oxford.
Council members on Oct. 27 were hesitant to designate a representative at first because the village shares no borders with Oxford Township.
“If we apply for something someday they may want to know if we’ve been supportive of other projects in the area. I can’t believe this will be that involved,” LO Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel told council members.
