Wrestling team begins the season on a high note

The Lake Orion Wrestling team started its season with a winning streak, with victories over Fenton, Detroit Catholic Central and five other teams competing at the Owosso Modified Duels.
Lake Orion began its season with modofied duels as part of the Owosso Modified Duels on Dec. 9. The team took first place of six teams, edging out Davison, Owosso, Flint Carman-Ainsworth, St. Johns, and Mt. Pleasent.
Individual placers included sophomore David Moore in second, junior Anthony Gerard in first, sophomore Charlie Highlen in first, senior Cameron Masters in second, senior John Atwater in second, junior Anthony Grupido in second, junior Durham Basso in second, John Yeglinski in second, senior Mac Boyer in second and sophomore Paul Scott in second.
Junior Ethan Gros made his season debut with a third period fall while Moore managed an 11-1 major decision bout. The Dragons beat the Tigers of Fenton 64-12.
Against DCC, junior Durham Basso started the Dragons off on the right foot with a 14-4 major decision bout. Junior Anthony Gerard earned his ninth straight win of the season with a fall.
From there the team took its grappling talents to the Oakland County Championship on Dec. 16-17, where the wrestlers finished in sith place overall.
After the holiday break, Lake Orion returns with a meet on Jan. 6 against Farmington Harrison, Holly, Midland Dow, Port Huron Northern, and Chippewa Hills.
