Young artists honored in regional competition

Four artists from Clarkston Junior High School received awards for their artwork pieces for the 2011 Southeastern Michigan Region of Scholastic Art Awards.
Janine Roemer and Nicholas Tozer each received a Silver Key award. Sarah Chandler and Alexandra Lies each won a Certificate of Merit. Each submitted a drawing to show off their artistic skills.
Thirteen pieces from Clarkston Junior High School students were entered in the annual contest including pieces from Sarah Gillay, Daniel Mattise, Sharon Patterson, Lindsay Runft, Callie Spytman, Sydney Thon and Erica Yeloushan.
Over 4,000 individual pieces were entered from Oakland County and Wayne County.
“I am so very proud of all the students who entered and know the artistic talent coming out of CJHS is strong,” said art teacher Laura Wilson. “I had the pleasure of handing the awards to the students who were able to attend the awards ceremony. It truly is an honor to have the students recognized for their artwork.”
