Young authors debut work at DA

It appears the future of the written word is in talented little hands as the second-graders in teacher Lee Phillips? class held an ‘Author Day? last week at Daniel Axford Elementary.
Before an audience consisting of proud parents and supportive classmates, each student read an original piece they penned during the ‘writers workshop? time they’re given everyday in class.
‘They have to write stories about their life,? Phillips explained. ‘It has to be a true story about something that happened to them.?
In preparation for ‘Author Day,? each student chose the story he or she liked best, edited it twice, then created illustrations and a cover for it.
Following the readings, students and parents enjoyed refreshments together. ? Editor C.J. Carnacchio
