Getting in shape is a great thing, but getting in shape for a great cause is even better.
If that sounds great, head to the Oxford Academy of Dance Jan. 3 at 10 a.m. to participate.
The dance school will hold an hour-long Zumba class with guest instructor Joseph Firmingham.
All proceeds will benefit the Tenaglia Family Fund (see related story on page 5 of the print edition).
Zumba is a fitness class style that merges dance with fitness.
According to Zumba of Michigan’s website, it combines styles including cumbia, merengue, salsa, reggaeton, mambo, rumba, flamenco, and hip hop.
The selections of music range from fast to slow and can help a person burn between 600 to 1,000 calories, depending on how much exertion is done.
Zumba of Michigan recommends participants wear sweat pants, shorts, tank tops, t-shirts or ‘anything comfortable and cool?.
Shoes should give the wearer support.
