Being a successful hunter involves the right combination of luck and skill.
Lakeville Elementary fifth-grader Bryce Darrin, 10, demonstrated he possesses both by bagging a 10-point buck over the weekend on his family’s 12-acre property in neighboring Metamora Township.
‘He was super excited,? said father Scott Darrin, of Oxford. ‘He could barely talk. He was all shaky. It was pretty cool.?
Bryce shot it at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23 as part of the state’s special two-day youth hunt. He took this monster with a 20-gauge slug.
‘Field-dressed, it was 160 pounds,? said Scott. ‘It was a big deer.?
Ironically, not only was this Bryce’s first deer, it was also his first-time hunting.
One would never know it by the result.
‘He shot it right through the heart at 45 yards,? Scott said. ‘He put a pretty good shot on it.?
