Capping a successful season, the Michigan AAU Shock 16-under girls basketball team finished with a tenth place finish at the AAU National Division II Tournament, held at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
The Shock traveled to Florida in mid-July to compete against other national qualifiers from around the country after a top-four finish at the State Tournament.
‘We don’t really have a superstar,? said Coach Bob Brydges. ‘We’ve got a lot of ballplayers that work really hard and come together as a team.?
The Michigan Shock is comprised of girls from Lake Orion (Cortney Kimmel, Chelsea Ahearn, Susan Holt and Elizabeth Mustazza); Auburn Hills Avondale (Lisa Davignon, Rachel Ziegler, Talicia Washington and Konstantine Salkeld; and Harper Woods Regina (Lizz Stone). Frank Mustazza and Dan Ahearn also coach the Shock.
After the trip to Nationals, the Shock came back and finished competing in the Varsity League at the Joe Dumars Fieldhouse. They finished first in season wins, and sealed the championship title by winning the playoff tournament in overtime.
