New round of break-ins hit Independence

Oakland County Sheriff investigators believe they have a suspect in home invasions occurring in April and early May, currently in custody in Flint Township.
That won’t answer questions concerning several new cases of residential breakins, however.
‘It’s a little bit different,? Detective Jerry DeRosia said of five incidents on Perry Lake Road, Cameo Lane and Deer Forest Court May 31 and June 3-4.
While the earlier incidents (in the Hubbard and Allen road areas), seemed to have tire tracks at each location, there seems to be no clear evidence for investigators to go on. DeRosia said there is a common element in the nature of items taken.
In almost all of the incidents, jewelry was taken from a bedroom. One homeowner also reported the theft of personal documents such as a Social Security card, birth certificate and a relative’s death certificate.
DeRosia said such documents may be sold for use in creating false identification for those involved in illicit purchase of alcohol and drugs.
While some of the incidents involved forced entry, at least two of the homes had an unlocked door utilized by the perpetrators.
Those with information concerning suspicious persons or vehicles are asked to contact the sheriff’s department at (248) 620-4968 or (248) 858-4950.
