Kingsbury Country Day School (KCDS) is pleased to announce that Hayley Spence of Romeo received a gold medal in this year’s National Spanish Exam, ranking in the 99th percentile of students nationwide, and second overall in the state of Michigan.
Hayley, who will enter the eighth grade in the fall, is the daughter of Jim Spence of Rochester and Joann Spence of Romeo.
‘Hayley is a natural linguist, we expect continuing great things as she expands her language studies,? noted Karen Melaas, Spanish teacher at Kingsbury Country Day. ‘KCDS students have a history of doing very well on the National Spanish Exam.
Hayley was joined in receiving NSE recognition by Jacklyn Kinsler, Lake Angelus, Nolan Whitted of Rochester and Nick Chizmadia of Lapeer, who received Silver Medals. Eric Dibble of Oxford and Emily Ford of Dryden received Bronze Medals and Jake Pilarski of Romeo, Salena Pritchett of Oxford and Colin Turner of Goodrich received Honorable Mention.
‘Attaining any placement or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,? said Kevin Cessna, National Director of the Exams, ‘because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States.?
