Library newsletter earns national recognition

An Oxford institution well-known for its volumes upon volumes of printed materials was recently honored on a national level for the one and only publication it creates.
The Oxford Public Library’s quarterly newsletter earned the ?2008 Best of Show? distinction within its budget range from the Library Administration and Management Association, a division of the American Library Association (ALA).
‘This award only reinforces all of the hard work and dedication the newsletter committee contributes to developing a successful information publication for the library,? said Library Director Bryan Cloutier. ‘I’m very proud of each and every one of them . . . It’s really a collaborative effort.?
Charli Osborne, head of teen services, accepted the award on the library’s behalf at the ALA’s annual conference in late June.
Oxford’s full-color glossy newsletter was selected based on content, originality, design, format and effectiveness.
Oxford competed amongst newsletter entries from more than 360 libraries throughout the United States and Canada.
‘I am very pleased and honored that our library was selected among many very qualified and creative entries for this award,? Cloutier said.
Every household in the 48371 zip code receives a copy of the library’s newsletter, which contains information about upcoming events, programs and services, news from each department from youth to adult, color photos from recent library happenings, staff book reviews and other fun facts.
‘Aside from the library’s website, our newsletter is the primary source of communication between the library and the community we serve,? Cloutier said.
‘Not everyone has the ability to have internet access in their home,? Cloutier explained. ‘The fact that we have the ability to mail (the newsletter) out to every household in the Oxford mailing address is another reason it’s very successful and effective.?
This is the second award the library’s newsletter has received within a year.
It was recognized as ‘Best of Show? for its budget range by the Michigan Library Association back in October 2007.
