LaJoie charged with online sex crimes

A 49-year-old Oxford man was recently arrested after he allegedly solicited sex over the internet from a person he thought was a teenage boy.
Steven Gerard LaJoie, a former teacher/school administrator outside Oxford and former employee of the Oxford Twp. Parks and Recreation Dept., is facing multiple charges after he allegedly asked an undercover investigator posing as a 14-year-old boy on the Craigslist website to meet for sex, according to a press release from the Michigan Attorney General’s office.
LaJoie was charged with one count of child sexually abusive activity (20-year felony), one count of using the internet to commit child sexually abusive activity (20-year felony) and one count of using the internet to commit disseminating sexually explicit matter to a minor (4-year felony).
Calls to the attorney general’s office seeking further details were not returned.
LaJoie reported previous employment at several Michigan schools, including Eaton Academy in Eastpointe and Notre Dame Preparatory School of Pontiac.
Director Ron Davis confirmed LaJoie worked for the township parks and rec. department as a general maintenance worker from 2003-05. He said LaJoie was ‘administratively released? from his job, but declined to say why.
Davis made it clear that LaJoie’s maintenance duties did not include working with any children.
