Girls? soccer scores spot in national standings

On ESPN’s Fab 50 National Girls? Soccer poll, the Lady Dragons varsity soccer team in currently ranked number 32.
‘It’s a great honor for our kids,? Coach Ken Snage said.
While waiting to scout for the team a couple of weeks ago, Snage was surfing online when he landed upon ESPN’s website. To his surprise, he found his team included in the top 50 girls? soccer teams around the United States.
Snage said that, above all, this accomplishment makes a name for Lake Orion.
‘Our soccer team being noticed has alot to do with previous accomplishments of many of our teams from the past, such as our baseball team, golf team, wrestling team, and football team,? Snage said.
He accredits Bill Reece, the athletic director at Lake Orion High School, for his great leadership.
‘Lake Orion is a great place to be,? Snage said.
The Lake Orion girls? soccer team has won all of their games so far this season.
On Thursday, May 7, the girls had a 1-0 victory over their Troy opponents.
Kelsey Galuardi scored with an assist from Kelsie Hopper.
On Saturday, May 9, the girls played against Walled Lake Central and won 4-0.
Niki Read scored two goals, Alicia Tirpak scored with assist from Kelsie Hopper, and Taylor Tremonti had the fourth goal from Megan Malloy.
This game was the Lady Dragons? 12th shutout in 14 games.
‘Not one of us picks up the ball; it’s all of us who pick up the ball,? Snage said.
Snage said that this girls? soccer team, who are also number two in the coaches? poll in Michigan, may be the best soccer team he has ever had.
He credited the girls as the ‘most disciplined,? ‘most dedicated,? and ‘most motivated.?
Former Lake Orion player and Oakland University graduate Jessica Boyle is their assistant coach, and Randy McCoy is the assistant head coach for the team.
