Art center sculpts successful students

The Orion Art Center (OAC) hosted the 11th annual Joan Brace Scholarship Awards at the Orion Township Public Library in early May.
Joan Brace was an accomplished artist who helped start the Orion Art Center 30 years ago. She pursued many art forms including painting, sculpture, printmaking, music and writing. She was interested in helping young artists to learn and excel.
‘We are proud to honor her memory by supporting young artists through this scholarship program.,? said OAC Director Reggie Harrison
The OAC awarded $2,800 to graduating seniors from Orion and surrounding areas who will be majoring in fine art.
To date, the fund has awarded over $32,000.
The exhibit will be on display at the library until June 1.
The Orion Art Center is grateful to Oxford Bank, the Steven Crowder Memorial Fund, the Ladies of the Knights of Columbus, Alana’s Art Fund And to juror artist Janet Almstadt Davison.
