Boys? lacrosse team forms friendships, goals for next year

All of the players on the varsity boys? lacrosse team knew each other this year.
They knew each other’s strategies, and they counted on one another to make the necessary plays.
The players said this was the reason the team did better during the 2009 season than in previous seasons.
But the Dragons still had a tough season with a final record of 6-11.
Their season came to an end in the second round of the State Tournament against Novi with a 17-5 loss.
The varsity team won their first state playoff game this season against Waterford, which was Coach Nik Banda’s goal.
The team hopes to get even further in the playoffs next year and also beat rivals Clarkston and Rochester Adams.

Girls? tennis serves an improved season

The girls? varsity tennis team worked hard this season to improve from last year.
Their 2009 record was 8-4.
Coach Mark Taylor said he’s proud of the team for acquiring second place in the league meet, only one point away from first. He hopes the team comes out on top next season.
Players Kelsey Cooper, Racheal Porter and Nicole VanRooyen were all members of the All-League Team.
VanRooyen came in as number one in the league.
Tiffanie Wise and Evelyn Wentold, fourth doubles, also came in first at their league meets.
Coach Taylor credits Cooper as being the top player for the Lady Dragons? team. He said the most memorable moments of the season were the girls? victory in the Warren Mott tournament and beating Rochester Adams for the first time in many years.
For next year, he said the girls need to work on their serves and net games and improve their doubles strategy.
