Hotel is here to ‘stay?

There are many hotels that contain various hues of traditional brown d’cor.
But not Springhill Suites Marriott in Orion Township.
Liz Kaplan, general manager of the Marriott hotel, said they chose bright colors, like turquoise and lime green, in the rooms, and upbeat music in the lobby to give the hotel a more modern and lively feeling and to appeal to the younger generation.
The Springhill Suites Marriott opened on June 24. The Marriot has 102 rooms on its four floors and is owned by Orion Hotels LLC.
Kaplan runs the daily operations of the hotel: human resources, front desk and maintenance. Kaplan said that Orion Hotels LLC started the building project of the Marriott hotel in Orion Township about seven years ago.
‘The Palace, corporate business and the automotive at that time was hot, so it was definitely a good area to put a hotel in, and so far it’s done pretty well,? Kaplan said.
Each of the rooms contains a 37-inch panel television, a microwave, a refrigerator, a pullout sofa and either two queen-size beds or one king-size bed.
In the downstairs area of the hotel, there is an indoor pool with a whirlpool, a fitness room and meeting rooms with 1,200 square feet of space, where reunions and wedding receptions have been held so far.
Kaplan said the hotel is also planning on opening a bar as soon as their liquor license is approved, hopefully within the next three months.
‘It’s the nicest, most updated hotel. It’s a brand new hotel; all the other hotels in this area, other than the Holiday Inn, are over ten years old. Once people know where we’re at and once people get into the rooms, they absolutely love it. All of the rooms are 25 percent larger than your typical hotel room. They’re a lot roomier, so it suits that extended-stay guest, along with the guest that may stay only one or two nights,? Kaplan said.
The Springhill Suites Marriott is Culver’s next-door neighbor, located off Lapeer Road at 4919 Interpark Drive in Orion Township. It’s about one mile from the Palace and the I-75 Lapeer entrance; the Village of Lake Orion is only a few miles away.
Nightly rates start at $89 and include continental breakfast, wireless Internet access and shuttles to locations such Great Lakes Crossing and the Village of Auburn Hills.
