Two incumbents were re-elected and one seat is vacant as a result of the Leonard Village Council election Monday.
Paul Almeranti and David Rathburg were each re-elected to two-year council seats.
Almeranti garnered 28 votes while Rathburg received 14 votes.
However, because there were no candidates for the third two-year seat that was up for election, council must appoint a resident to fill it.
The seat was vacated by Councilman Wesley Douglas, who decided not to seek re-election.
Council President Eugene Mallia, Jr. said three residents have privately expressed to him an interest in filling the vacancy.
Mallia said he will recommend someone to fill the seat at the Thursday, March 13 meeting. Council must then vote on the appointment, he said.
According to Clerk Cindy Oehler, 33 of the village’s 246 registered voters participated in Monday’s election, resulting in a voter-turnout of 13.4 percent.
