Village to allow Sunday morning alcohol sales

It appears thirsty folks who choose to do so will soon be able to purchase alcohol on Sunday morning in the Village of Lake Orion.
The Michigan Liquor Control Commission (LCC) has changed the way alcohol can be sold on what some term ‘a day of rest.?
Starting Thursday, Dec. 16, licensed businesses may opt to sell liquor between the hours of 7 a.m. and noon with a Sunday Morning Sales permit.
The sale of alcohol between these hours is currently prohibited.
As part of the notice, the LCC sent letters to cities, townships, and counties notifying them that any community that wishes to continue the current prohibition of Sunday morning alcohol sales may ban the issuance of the Sunday Morning Sales permit.
A 3-3 tie vote of the Lake Orion Village Council on Monday, Dec. 13, meant a motion ban the permits failed for lack of majority vote, thus allowing Sunday morning alcohol sales in the village by liscensed sellers who obtain the special permit.
While permits will be available beginning Dec. 16, the village council may revisit the issue after that date.
