Laure Burt and her partner, Linda Cotter, were proprietors of the Curiosity Shoppe in Franklin for more than 20 years. Both were looking for a change, which resulted in Burt moving to Goodrich and Cotter to South Carolina.
They transferred their design studio to Burt’s barn, transforming what formerly housed animals into a place with walls of fabrics, samples, hundreds of wallpaper books, racks of carpet samples and furniture, lighting and accessory catalogs.
An interior designer is a resource who works with a client to achieve a home decor to reflect their personal style.
‘I’ve had many clients over the years say how they wished they had started working with me before they made costly mistakes,? Burt said. ‘I work within a client’s budget and am sensitive to each family’s lifestyle. When selecting fabrics, you often have to consider durability, children and animals.?
Burt considers how a room will be used, and offers decor that is both practical and cohesive in style, warm and inviting. She offers full-service design services, from concept to completion, and also offers hourly consultation for either a single room or the entire home.
In addition to helping make the home more pleasant to live in, Burt can help sellers make the home more attractive to the buyers market.
From a Hegel Road showroom in downtown Goodrich, Burt teams with Ron MacGregor, a master upholsterer with more than 30 years experience. He has worked with upholstery in areas including aviation, automobiles and boats.
MacGregor especially enjoys creating custom furniture, headboards and cornice boards. He can design a piece for the customer or work from a customer’s ideas or pictures. He will also come to the home to help determine whether an item should be reupholstered.
In addition to upholstery, MacGregor can refinish any wood trim on a piece of furniture, so restoration is a one-stop affair.
