You’ve heard it said ‘Kids tell it how it is.? Well, it’s true.
Whether it was for ‘Stand 4 Change? against bullying (story next week), St. Joseph School’s Destination Imagination (page 3), or the students at Pine Tree Elementary telling me why their mom is great for Happy Mother’s day, this week I got an opportunity to interview a lot of school kids.
There is something so amazing when you get to pick a child’s mind on almost any subject. Whether they are in elementary or just getting ready to graduate high school, their answers will always leave me with emotion. At the elementary age I smile beause their answers are just so cute, but other times I am just so intrigued by the insight they have on real life subjects like bullying at such a young age.
No matter what is going on in their young lives they still have this level of faith that they can change the world.
As I move up th ladder to middle school and high school I see the students insight grow even greater. Soemtimes it’s good, other times I am saddened because I see the innocent faith they had when they were a kid has been stripped from them.
It happens to us all, as we get older our worldviews change by the atmosphere and the events that happen around us. I know I don’t think and react the same way to things as I did when I was a kid. There comes a time when all of us must ‘grow up.?
The Apostle Paul said ‘When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.? (1st Corinthians 13:11)
However, I don’t think ‘putting the childish ways behind me? means giving up on the faith to change the world around us. It certianly didn’t to Paul.
So the next time you need some insight on life, take a moment to ask a kid and you might be surprised by the answer.
