The power’s back, baby!

Before 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, power was restored to all Oxford/Addison customers who had lost it as a result of the Dec. 21-22 ice storm.
Nearly 8,600 local customers had lost their electricity following the storm.
Many Oxford/Addison households went without power for the Christmas holiday as evidenced by 2,977 customers who were still in the dark at 10 a.m. Dec. 26. That number dwindled to 364 by 7 p.m. Dec. 27.
According to Oxford Fire Chief Pete Scholz, the only incident of note since the Leader’s Dec. 25 storm article, was a power line coming down on Ludwig Rd. between Oakwood and Thomas roads.
The wire hit the ground on Christmas night and began arcing. The intense heat melted an underground gas main that was about 30 inches below it, the chief said.
The live wire ignited the spewing natural gas and caused an ?18-inch circle of flame? to burn through the surrounding ground.
