Led by junior Kirk Elsworth’s three touchdowns, the Goodrich football team continued to assert itself in the Genesee Area Conference Red Division race.
The Martians handily defeated visiting LakeVille 44-7 Oct. 10 to improve to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the GAC Red. Goodrich, which has not won a league championship since 1972, can clinch at least a share of the GAC Red title with a win against Byron Oct. 17.
Elsworth, who rushed for 134 yards, scored on touchdown runs of eight and 73 yards in the first half. The Martians added a four-yard touchdown run by Adam McAuliffe and a 37-yard touchdown pass from Matt Hill to Lance Keene to take a 28-0 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Elsworth scored on a three-yard touchdown run to give him 15 touchdowns on the season. James Loftis capped the Martian scoring with a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Hill kicked five PATs and added a 30-yard field goal for the Martians.
After their game against Byron, the Martians conclude their regular season Oct. 24, hosting Yale at 7:30 p.m.
