A note on Letters To the Editor

With only two publications left before November 4’s General Election, we thought it important to take a moment and go over our letters to the editor policy. Instead of going into great, boring detail, we’ll make it simple.
We accept all letters to the editor.
We print all letters to the editor, unless they are libelous; or (in our opinion) bad taste; or if they are written by someone who is not local; or if we have too many on any given subject; or too many from the same writer.
Some letters won’t run, because we think they merit more — a news investigation/story.
We reserve the right to edit all letters to meet our style, for grammar, spelling and brevity. Unless in praise, we will not print the names of local businesses in a letter to the editor.
We want to print all writers? names — however, on occassion we will run letters to the editor from ‘Annonymous.? We do this if we deem the letter message important and to protect the writer from any retaliation from powers-that-be. Our staff, however, must know the writer’s name. All letters must come with a daytime phone number and home address.
In regards to the upcoming election, we will print no letters in support or in opposition of any candidate or proposal after the October 22 edition. So, you politically-minding individuals, read up: Get your letters to our office no later than noon on Monday, October 20.
Okay, that was longer than first anticipated. Any questions, give us a call.
