Independence Township sent absentee ballots out to voters on Oct. 5, and they should be returned no later than the close of the polls on Nov. 6 at 8 p.m., said Clerk Barb Pallotta.
Absentee ballots must be clearly marked using black or blue ink, and voters should be sure to check both sides of their ballot. Citizens who vote straight ticket will need to vote on nonpartisan and proposal sections separately.
If any errors are made, absentee voters can return their ballot to the Clerk’s office for a new one.’Voter registration ended on Oct. 9.?
Of the 7,718 voters who cast ballots in the primary election, 2,666 voted absentee.

Absentee ballots
Absentee-ballot application deadline is 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31. Absentee ballots can be obtained in person anytime through 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2. Voters who request an absentee ballot in person on Monday, Nov. 2, must vote the ballot in the clerk’s office. Emergency absentee ballots are available under certian conditions thorugh 4 p.m. on Election day. To qualify, voter must be:
‘Age 60 or older
‘Physically unable to attend the polls for the entire time the polls are open on Election Day.
‘In jail awaiting arraignment or trial.
‘unable to attend due to religous reasons
‘appointed to work as an election inspector in a precinct outside of your precinct of resdidence.
Brandon Twp.- Residents who want an absentee ballot for the Jan. 15 presidential primary election must request one from the clerk’s office by mail, e-mail, telephone or fax.
