Achievement

Jeremy Irwin of Ortonville was named as the August 2010 recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Irwin works in the oncology unit of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland. He was recognized for his clinical skills, compassionate care, exemplary service and extraordinary commitment to patient-centered-care. He began working for SJMO in 2009.
The DAISY Award is given monthly to outstanding nurses in more than 100 hospitals across the United States. Each award recipient receives a DAISY Award signature lapel pin, a certificate of recognition and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled ‘A Healer’s Touch.?
The DAISY Award is a program of the DAISY Foundation. DAISY is an acronym that stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 by the Barnes family in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura at age 33. The DAISY Foundation funds research to help fight diseases of the immune system and supports patients and their families.

Military

Joseph D. Miller graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as ‘Operation Warrior Forge,? at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.
The 32 days of training provide the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet’s officer potential as a leader by exercising the cadet’s intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and physical stamina.
The cadet command assesses each cadet’s performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while attending the course. Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course.
Miller received an associate’s degree in 2008 from Central Texas College and is a student at Eastern Michigan University. He is the son of Carole Chaban of Goodrich.
