Jerry and Jackie Bambousek took a break last week from being the king and queen of snow to become the monarchs of hearts.
Married 58 years, the Oxford couple, wearing their crowns, celebrated Valentine’s Day together by attending a holiday party at Independence Village of Waterstone.
Last month, the couple was elected Independence Village’s 2014 Snow King and Queen. Despite their title, there’s nothing frosty about their love for each other.
So, what’s the secret to spending nearly six decades as husband and wife?
‘I think you have to give and take,? Jackie said. ‘When you get mad at each other, you’ve got to make up before you go to bed. You can’t stay mad long.?
Jerry said it’s all about communication.
‘That’s the secret,? he said. ‘We talk it over when problems come up rather keeping it to ourselves.?
Originally from Ohio, the Bambouseks moved to Michigan in 1972 and have called Oxford home since 2004.
Prior to moving into Independence Village about a year-and-a-half ago, they lived in the Oxford Woods subdivision.
Jackie spent 40 years working as a registered nurse. She retired from Crittenton Hospital in 1993.
Jerry spent 35 years working as a design engineer for General Motors. He retired in 1990.
