Anne Frank lives again on OHS stage

‘The Diary of Anne Frank? is both powerful and timeless, according to Oxford High School Theatre Director Krista Price.
‘I love how one girl, (who) in the great scheme of things may seem insignificant, her story is being retold and retold simply because she wrote it down,? Price said. ‘I think there is a lot of power in that.?
‘I think it’s a story that a lot of times we don’t ask the question could this happen today and if so how? I think it does happen all over the world in different but very similar ways,? she continued. ‘I think that’s one question I would like to explore in the telling of this story when we do it on stage.?
The OHS Theatre Club will be performing ‘The Diary of Anne Frank? Nov. 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 student general admission, $8 for adult general admission, and $10 for VIP seating in the center section.
‘I am really excited about playing the part of Anne Frank because I can really relate to her character and I’ve done a lot of research on her,? said Jenna Duronio. ‘I started out reading her diary in seventh grade after we had read the play in school.?
After finding out Anne Frank was going to be the play for the start of the school year, Duronio said she re-read the diary again over the summer and has fallen in love with Anne’s character.
‘I really admire the fact that she’s always trying to better herself because that’s not something a lot of people do,? she said. ‘The importance she places on family, friends her faith, her studies and how ambitious she is. I really like that.?
Duronio also liked that the play was different than previous shows of ‘Alice in Wonderland? and ‘The Last Gladiator.?
‘Those are like cute fun silly shows and this is more dramatic,? she said. ‘It’s a different type of acting I’m not used to.?
For tickets call the Box Office at 248-969-5321, which is open daily from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
‘I think it’s a well known name that will hopefully draw people to what we’re doing new in the theatre program here this year at Oxford,? Price said.
