Both varsity bowling teams got back to their winning ways when they rolled against Berkley on Thursday, Jan. 20.
The girls improved to 4-1 on the season in the Oakland Activities Association with a 29-1 victory over the Bears, while the boys cruised to a 23-7 win, improving to 3-2 in the OAA.
The ladies won both baker games by a score of 144-92 and 157-133 and closed out the match with victories by junior Alyssa Hurtado, sophomore Caitlyn Wroblewski, junior Colleen Walters and junior Heather Lafnear.
Freshman Emily Kalohn won her first point as a member of the varsity squad with a 97-84 victory in the second head-to-head game.
Lafnear led the way in game two with a 220, followed by Walter’s 190, Hurtado’s 154 and senior Ashley Darocha’s 136.
The concept of team victory was truly evident as all five bowlers threw at least one strike in the Wildcats 223-200 victory in game one of baker. Game two also went to Oxford, 164-137.
Senior Brandon Barber, junior Mitch Guzanek and freshman Kyle Woody each won matches in game one of head-to-head play, stretching their lead to 13-6. Winning matches for Oxford in game two were Barbar, freshman Jason Petty, freshman Brandon Hurlburt and Woody.
‘Our kids were really focused today,? head coach JR Lafnear said. ‘The scores they shot were high and they were really into the game. We could have competed with anyone today.?
Both teams took on the rest of Oakland County during the Oakland County Championships on Saturday, Jan. 22 and Sunday, Jan. 23.
The girls were able to make it to the round of 16, posting team scores of 760, 797 and 791 and averaged a 148 over four baker games. Seeded eighth, they would go up against Lakeland, who would take game one 191-119. Oxford would take game two 191-189, but lose totals 380-310.
Both Lafnear and Walters would receive medals for their bowling performances.
The boys didn’t fare as well. They could never get going and failed to make the round of 16. After starting out strong with games of 849, 946 and 923, they couldn’t keep up the momentum, rolling games of 169, 159, 150 and 147. Oxford finished in 17th.
Both teams traveled to Sterling Heights to bowl Royal Oak on Monday, Jan. 24.
