On Thursday, Jan 31, Oxford Wildcats hosted the Trojans of Livonia Clarenville. The Clarenceville girls? team would prove no match for the Wildcats. The Girls Varsity team from Oxford won 28-2.
The boys? match would be more of a challenge. After losing 2 baker games the Oxford boys kicked it into high gear. The Oxford boys rolled games of 1058 and 1072 winning 6 of 10 matches and pulling out a 16 to 14 victory.
Leading the way with games of 231 and 243 was Sophomore Drew Pappas. Sean McKinney helped out with a fine 247 and Kyle Woody tossed a 214.
Oxford traveled to Troy Lanes to bowl the very young Troy Athens team on Monday. The Wildcats had little trouble winning away from home. The girls of Oxford bowled well bowling baker games of 191 and 188. Leading the way in match play was Allysa Hurlburt with games 223 and 178 and Caitlyn Wroblewski 169 and 223. Hannah Farmer also tossed a fine 213 game.
The final score 25-5.
The boys didn’t find the lanes as agreeable as the ladies but pulled out a solid victory 21-9.
Oxford bowled an impressive 246-baker game, but lost baker totals by 2 pins. Trailing 6 to 4 the Wildcats won 7 of 10 head up matches to pull out the win. Again leading the way was Pappas with a 244 game followed by Jake Delong’s 235 and McKinney’s 238.
‘Both teams are bowling well right now,? said Coach J.R. Lafnear. ‘We have a few matches left and our focus is very high. We have a chance to do real well down the stretch and in the year end tournaments.?
The boys record is now 9 ? wins and 3 ? losses while the ladies are 8 wins and 5 losses.
Oxford participated in the Motor City team Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 7. The tournament is one of the largest in the area with 28 varsity boys? teams, 23 JV boys teams and 16 varsity girls? teams bowling. Oxford sent 2 JV boys and a Varsity boys and girls team to the event. All four teams would advance out of pool play and go into the next round. Oxford Boys Sean McKinney and Brady Wynkoop would make the Varsity All Tournament team and Luke Delong would make the JV All Tournament team. Luke had a 279 game in the qualifying round throwing 11 strikes in a row.
In round 1 Boys Varsity and the JV Gold team wouldn’t advance but the JV Blue team and The Varsity girls did. The JV Blue team would not advance in the third round but the Varsity Girls did. The Girls advance threw the next 2 rounds and found themselves in the finals against Macomb Dakota. The finals would be total pinfall for 3 baker games. The girls were behind by 7 after game 1,down by 10 after game 2. In game 3 the girls mounted a charge but fell 1 pin short.
The girls finished second to a real strong team and did awesome job all day.
