For Kande Ngalamulume, Democrat candidate for U.S. Congress, Clarkston was just the spot to kick off his campaign.
“I love the people of Clarkston and north Oakland County,” said Ngalamulume, May 6, in front of 5 S. Main Street, home of The Clarkston News. “Get used to me, I’m going to be here a lot.”
“Clarkston is an ideal place to start campaign ? it’s a beautiful city with a lot of history,” said Phil Reid, North Oakland Democrats, who helped organize the stop.
Challenging U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, he travelled to all five counties in the Eighth District during his kickoff.
“We have to get someone new in there ? Rogers isn’t doing a good job for the people he’s supposed to represent,” said Jose Munoz of Clarkston, who stopped to hear the speech.
“I think we need a new representative,” said Jennifer Water of Oxford. “I don’t feel Mr. Rogers is helping us in any way.”
“I liked his speech ? he made a lot of good points,” said Alan Scott of Clarkston, there with his wife, Nance Scott.
“He stands for the change we need in Michigan,” Nance said. “I’m excited about his candidacy.”
The candidate brings experience from the financial and health care industries, pledging to work with Republicans to support President Barack Obama’s reform efforts in health care, education, jobs, and energy.
