Local artist Jan Mayer helps make the spirit bright with custom Christmas cards, offered through Clarkston United Methodist Church.
“It’s for such a good cause,” said Mayer, whose 2014 card features Mary cradling the baby Jesus. “This year I wanted to create something to show the sensitivity between mother and child, just with lines and sketches. It shows a lot of emotion and tenderness towards the child. I love the simplicity of it.”
Proceeds from the sale of the cards go to the church Pastor’s Emergency Fund to provide food, utility, housing and other assistance.
“It’s so kind to help those in need,” said Mayer, who has been a member of the church for 25 years. ‘It’s not just for parishioners, it’s for those in need in the community.?
Mayer, who lives in Independence Township, has been painting for about 40 years. She created Christmas cards as a fund-raising project for Beaumont eight years ago, and started making them for Clarkston United Methodist Church five years ago.
The Christmas cards designed by Mayer are on sale in the church office, 6600 Waldon Road, for $15 for a 10 pack. For more information, call 248-625-1611.
