Cats take second in Oxford Invitational

The stormy skies and an hour delay did not stop the Girls Varsity Softball team from hosting their 5th Annual Jill Milosch Memorial Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Wildcats hosted Northville, Port Huron Northern, and Rochester Adams in the round robin tournament.
The Wildcats went 2-1 on the day, losing their opener 6-5 against tournament champ, Northville.
‘It was a heartbreaker,? said Head Coach Kristi McDevitt. ‘We were leading the whole game and lost it in the top of the seventh inning. The girls rebounded well though, and we were able to defeat Northern and Adams for second place.?
McDevitt said the next two games for Oxford were nail-biters and the games, as those games didn’t define the winner until the seventh winning.
Offensively the Wildcats were led by junior Allie Laidlaw who hit the cycle, including an in the park home run. Laidlaw finished 5 for 10 with 2 RBIs.
Junior Kelly Cartner was 4 for 10 with 4 RBIs.

Luxton pitched 13 strikeouts.
During the second game the Lady Wildcats lost, 6-4.
‘The Wildcats were disappointed with the loss in the nightcap,? said McDevitt. ‘The girls were besides themselves for opening up the door for Fenton to beat them. We were the better team out there, but we didn’t produce and go right back at them in the second game and it cost us.?
Laidlaw had two RBIs, and Kelly Cartner and Cassie Edgemon both brought in one run in the loss.
