Christmas play at Mt. Zion

The Mt. Zion Theatre Company is in the Chrismas spirit, preparing for their holiday show “Rented Christmas,” a play written by Norman C. and Yvonne Ahem.
Set in the 1940s, John Brock plays John Dale, a wealthy bachelor who longs for the ‘real? Christmas he has not had for many years. He decides to rent a Christmas, including a family with five children and all the holiday trimmings from Anne Weston, played by Jayne Drais, who owns a local rental shop.
A problem arises when there is an outbreak of measles affecting the actor’s guild. Anne is forced to turn to a local orphanage for help.
Clarkston-area children in the cast of rented children include Annabelle Blade, 12, Becca Brocher, 14, Serena Chiappelli, 8, and Brendan Hughes, 11.
The heart-warming, humorous play will also feature a children’s choir of carolers as well as members of the Mt. Zion School of Performing Arts hip hop competition team, putting their twist on swing from the ’40s. The show is suitable for all ages.
All performances are at the Mt. Zion Theatre, 4900 Maybee Road in Independence Township. Performance dates are December 5-6 and 12-13, 8 p.m. A matinee performance on Dec. 13 is 2 p.m. All tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
