St. Trinity Lutheran Church in Independence Township will hold a 125th anniversary celebration on Sunday, Sept. 19.
David P. E. Maier, president of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Michigan District, will preach at the 8:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. services that day.
A picnic with family activities, including games, children’s crafts and inflatable toys, will follow the 11 a.m. service in the pavilion on the church’s grounds.
The event is the second of two anniversary celebrations this year marking the founding of the church in Pontiac in May 1885. St. Trinity built on its present site on Sashabaw Road at Clarkston Road in 1975.
‘This (celebration) is more a recognition of the commitment in Christian education, including Bible study and confirmation classes,? said Chuck Claus, chairman of the 125th anniversary committee.
St Trinity operated a Christian elementary school for 66 years and currently has a preschool that is approaching its 30th year.
At least one former principal, Herman Schmidt, will be in attendance. All Vacation Bible School and Sunday School students received personal invitations to the celebration.
