Coffee talk

Energy and housing were the main topics of discussion at a coffee-hour discussion Monday, hosted by U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers.
Local business and government leaders wanted to know what was being done about them. In energy, Rogers said he is pushing a wide variety of projects, including more oil drilling and refineries, wind, solar, nuclear, electric cars, and ethanol, which has been getting a bad rap lately.
‘It’s not a cure-all, but it can be part of the solution,? he said.
A housing bill recently passed should help lenders and homeowners in trouble, he said.
Rogers meets with constituents every few weeks.
‘It’s important to meet with them,? he said. ‘It’s a great way to find out what’s up in the community ? I get a lot of ideas here.?
The meetings are also a good way for constituents to find out what’s going on in Washington, said Ed Adler, founder of Clarkston State Bank, who attended the meeting.
‘It’s a very effective way to communicate,? Adler said. ?(Rogers) has been doing these ever since he became a congressman.?
