The best homemade chile and pies win awards and bragging rights at Springfield Township Parks and Recreation’s Chile Cookoff and Pie Baking Contest, 6:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 15, at Hart Community Center in Davisburg.
Chile will be judged on Aroma, Consistency, Appearance and Taste. No store bought chili or wild game. Pies are judged on Presentation, Appearance, Consistency and Taste. They must be fruit pies, no refrigeration, store-bought pies, crusts, or fillings ? all ingredients must be homemade.
Winners receive awards, first place winners named Springfield Township’s 2010 Chili Master and Pie Baking Master. Cook chile and pies before contest. All recipes required. Contest entry fee is $15, 16 years old and up.
Parks and rec also hosts a Buck Pole contest, 5-8 p.m., Nov. 15, at Mill Pond Park in Davisburg. All ages welcome.
Deer must be tagged and licensed. Scores based on weight, rack spread and number of points, with awards for over all largest buck, largest buck by a female and largest buck by a youth, under 16 years. All participants must be present to win. Admission is free.
